Your virtual guide to getting ready for your new puppy

There’s so much to think about before they even walk through the door. What equipment do you actually need? Where should your puppy sleep? How do you handle those first few nights? When should you start toilet training and socialisation? And what can you do now to make those first few weeks easier?

Puppy Prep is a relaxed, practical virtual session designed for anyone who is about to welcome a new puppy into their home.

During this approximately 1-hour online session, we’ll help you get prepared so that you can concentrate on enjoying your puppy when they arrive rather than trying to work everything out as you go!

We’ll cover:

• What you really need for your new puppy – and what you probably don’t!

• Setting up your home and creating a safe puppy area

• Crates, pens, beds and sleeping arrangements

• Preparing for the journey home

• What to expect during the first few days and nights

• Getting toilet training off to a good start

• Introducing your puppy to children, other dogs and family members

• Managing puppy biting and chewing

• Building good habits from day one

• Socialisation – what it really means and why you don't need to wait until vaccinations are complete

• Preparing for leaving your puppy alone

• Starting to build confidence, calmness and independence

• Common puppy pitfalls and how to avoid them

• Your questions – with time to discuss anything you're unsure about

Start before your puppy arrives

Puppy training doesn’t have to begin on the day you bring your puppy home.

Having a plan beforehand can make those first few days much less stressful for both you and your puppy. Small decisions about sleeping, routines, toilet training, socialisation and how you respond to your puppy’s behaviour can make a big difference later on.

Our approach is reward-based, practical and focused on your puppy’s emotional wellbeing, helping you create a positive start while beginning to build the relationship you want with your new puppy.
